Downs

From PSO2: New Genesis Wiki
(Redirected from Status Effects)

Downs are the PSO2NGS equivalent to status effects. While an enemy suffering from a Downed state is simply stunned, a player suffering from a Downed state deals with a more traditional status effect, such as being Burned.

How enemies are inflicted with Down

Attacking various points on enemies will build Physical Down, while attacking them with elemental attacks matching their elemental weakness will build Elemental Down. After this build reaches a certain value, the enemy will be stunned and the amount of that particular Down dealt will reset.

While suffering from one type of Down, enemies cannot have that same Down type built, so you cannot continue to build Physical Down while an enemy is already stunned from a Physical Down. However, you can build Elemental Down while an enemy suffering from Physical Down, and vice-versa.

Sometimes a Down state simply changes the condition of an enemy, or breaking parts can trigger a special Down state that allows Physical and Elemental down to continue being built. An example is Nils Stia, which does not build Physical Down on its leg guards, while Elemental Down will freeze it and turn it into a weak point. After breaking two leg guards, it will be temporarily stunned in a special Down state.

BREAK status

BREAK is a special status for large targets, such as Pettas Vera or Dark Falz. BREAK builds as damage is dealt, regardless of if the part attacked can build Physical Down. However, Elemental Down will only contribute towards BREAK if the target is weak to the element of Technique used. If the target is not weak to the element of the Technique, such as if you use Foie on Pettas Vera, you will only inflict a very minor amount of BREAK from the Physical Down it inflicts.

Upon entering BREAK status, the enemy will be stunned for an extended period and take extra damage while the BREAK meter refills. After the meter has fully replenished, the enemy will begin their recovery animation, but will continue to take extra damage until they can resume fighting.

How players are inflicted with Down

Attacks that can inflict status effects deal Status Damage per hit. Upon taking 100 in a particular type of Status Damage, you will be inflicted with that status effect until the effect's duration expires and your total inflicted Status Damage of that type will reset. Taking another 100 Status Damage while suffering from a specific effect will increase how long the effect lasts, as well as strengthen the effect.

Down Resist gained through abilities such as Ability (NGS) C/Burn Ward III and Ability (NGS) C/Exdi Ward Parfait reduce the amount of Status Damage taken by the shown percentage, while penalties such as through Ability (NGS) C/Wardro Triyal increase the Status Damage taken. If you have a final total of 30% Ice Resist, and get hit by an attack that deals 20 Ice Elemental Down, the attack will be reduced to only dealing 14 Ice Elemental Down instead. Similarly, if you have -50% Ice Resist, the same 20 Ice Elemental Down attack will deal 30 Ice Elemental Down instead.

Status effects have a maximum duration per level, and duration cannot extend past this. If you have 18 seconds of Burn Lv1 remaining, and are inflicted with Burn Lv2, the timer will only be increased by 5 seconds to the maximum of 23 seconds, despite the normal refresh value of 7 seconds. Similarly, if you only have 5 seconds remaining for Burn Lv2, and are then inflicted with Burn Lv3, the timer will be extended to 12 seconds.

Elemental Down

These are traditional elemental status effects. Only one Elemental Down can occur at a time, and if a player suffering from one is inflicted with a different Elemental Down, the effect is overwritten by the new one.

Burn

Inflicted by Fire Attribute Down. Players take damage every two seconds and deal less damage until the effect expires.

Higher levels increase the current duration by up to 7 seconds, increase the damage taken, and increase the damage dealt penalty.

Level Effect Maximum Duration Damage Taken Damage Dealt Penalty
1 21 seconds 1% of max HP Damage Dealt -5%
2 23 seconds 1.1% of max HP Damage Dealt -6%
3 25 seconds 1.3% of max HP Damage Dealt -7%
4 27 seconds 1.4% of max HP Damage Dealt -8%
5 31 seconds 1.5% of max HP Damage Dealt -10%

Freeze

Inflicted by Ice Attribute Down. Players are frozen in place and cannot make any actions until the effect expires. If frozen in midair, players will float until the effect ends.

Higher levels do not exist, but instead refresh the duration of the effect. Being attacked by an attack that causes you to stagger, fall down, or be sent flying away will end the status early. Otherwise, the player will remain frozen.

Level Effect Maximum Duration
All 7 seconds

Shock

Inflicted by Lightning Attribute Down. Players will regularly either flinch or be knocked down until the effect expires. If you are in a state that is otherwise immune to flinch or knockdown when the effect would occur, the effect is negated.

Higher levels increase the current duration by up to 6 seconds, increase how frequently the player will be flinched/knocked down, and increase the chance of knockdown occuring instead of flinching.

Level Effect Maximum Duration Occurance rate Knockdown Chance
1 15 seconds 6 seconds 10%
2 18 seconds 5 seconds 12%
3 23 seconds 5 seconds 14%
4 23 seconds 4 seconds 14%
5 27 seconds 4 seconds 16%

Blind

Inflicted by Wind Attribute Down. Photon Arts cost more PP until the effect expires.

Higher levels increase the current duration by up to 7 seconds and increase the PP cost penalty.

Level Effect Maximum Duration PP cost
1 25 seconds +10%
2 25 seconds +15%
3 30 seconds +20%
4 30 seconds +25%
5 35 seconds +30%

Poison

Inflicted by Dark Attribute Down. Players take damage over time every 3 seconds until the effect expires. While it doesn't have the damage dealt penalty that Burn has, it deals significantly more damage over time.

Higher levels increase the current duration by up to 7 seconds, and increase the damage taken per activation.

Level Effect Maximum Duration Damage Dealt
1 25 seconds 3% of maximum HP
2 25 seconds 3.5% of maximum HP
3 28 seconds 4% of maximum HP
4 28 seconds 4.5% of maximum HP
5 31 seconds 5% of maximum HP

Panic

Inflicted by Light Attribute Down. Players will have their directional inputs change periodically until the effect expires.

Input directions change by "rotating" your inputs from 45 to 315 degrees in 45 degree implements. If you find which key would move you forward, all other inputs will be consistent with that until the next input randomization.

This does not affect movement caused by Photon Arts, sidestepping without a movement input, etc, so you can still maintain some control of your character through creative use of whatever tools remain available to you.

Higher levels increase the current duration by up to 5 seconds, as well as increase the frequency your controls will change.

Level Effect Maximum Duration Frequency of controls changing
1 30 seconds 15 seconds
2 30 seconds 10 seconds
3 35 seconds 10 seconds
4 35 seconds 8 seconds
5 40 seconds 7 seconds

Physical Down

These are status effects inflicted by attacks that aren't strictly elemental, such as Dustyl Hammer's shockwave. A Physical Down can be inflicted at the same time as an Elemental Down.

It is incredibly important to note that Physical Down resist, gained through augments such as Ability (NGS) C/Pain Ward III, does not grant resistance nor immunity to the effects of being flinched or knocked down!

Stun

One of two statuses inflicted by Physical Down. Players are stunned and unable to act until the effect expires.

Higher levels refresh the duration of the effect. Being attacked by an attack that causes you to stagger, fall down, or be sent flying away will end the status early. However, having a superarmor effect such as from Hunter Physique or the Codeck series potential Impervious Unit will prevent the status from being ended early in this manner.

Pressing input keys while stunned will reduce the effect duration, but not past the absolute minimum of 2 seconds. If using a keyboard, you only need to press keys twice to minimize the effect duration.

Level Effect Minimum Duration Effect Maximum Duration
All 2 seconds 6 seconds

Wound

One of two statuses inflicted by Physical Down. Players will temporarily have their maximum HP reduced until the effect expires.

Higher levels reduce the amount of HP lost. Upon the effect expiring, lost HP is regained.

Enemies that can inflict Wound have a maximum level they can inflict. All level increases will refresh the duration back to 30 seconds.

Level Effect Duration Effect Enemies
1 30 seconds Maximum HP -15%
2 30 seconds Maximum HP -30% Arnz, Derun Gerad
3 30 seconds Maximum HP -45% Dark Falz Solus
