The Gunner (NGS) Gunner class is one of ten classes available to players in Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis.

Basic information

For information about Gunner's weapons, see /Equipment. For information about its Class Skills, see Skill Tree.

Gunners are a short-to-medium range class that can equip Twin Machine Guns and Assault Rifles.

While Assault Rifles are available, they are primarily used as a sidearm, with most of their damage being dealt with Twin Machine Guns.

Despite using ranged weapons, Gunners prefer to stay in close range.

As a Main Class

Gunner gameplay revolves around Chain Trigger, Hail of Bullets and Chain Trigger Finish.

As a Sub Class

Gunner offers very little as a subclass only providing Offensive PP Recovery through Attack PP Recovery and Overwhelm and PP Recovery through Dodge PP Gain, as Ranger grants better access to Assault Rifle related Skills and core Twin Machine Guns such as Chain Trigger and Chain Boost is locked behind Main Class.

Strengths

Weaknesses

  • Overall DPS is reliant on maintaining a steady Chain Finish loop, so missing a Finish window can sharply lower your performance

Misconceptions

  • In most cases, you do not need to chain all the way to 150. Building chain past 100 is DPS neutral due to much smaller gains in damage per chain. Chaining to 120 or 150 does increase the PP restored to party members, but this means little in a solo or time sensitive environment.
  • Gunner can utilize Subclasses other than Ranger, whilst Rifle does help increase damage, playing solely Twin Machine Guns is still a viable option, especially in multiplayer scenarios due to Long Range Advantage Gu so Fighter, Bouncer and Slayer.
  • Despite being a Ranged Class, Gunner plays exclusively at close-range.
